The Music

Jo Day is a Rock artiste based in Johannesburg, South Africa. Her sound could be called "Heavy Melodic Modern Rock". Her influences vary from Gospel to Heavy Metal. Often compared to Garbage & Guano Apes, her music is generally "heavier" than both.

In early 2002, Jo - working with co-writer / producer Jon Buckley (producer of the original Saron Gas, now Seether) - released her first album: "icon", which yielded 4 radio hits. She formed JO DAY, the B.A.N.D. (Bad-Ass Nocturnal Dudes) and began to tour and perform extensively.

In 2003 Jo released her acclaimed second album, "No Warning", which gave another 3 radio hits. Later the same year Jo left her label (Legend Music) and went 'indie' with the launch of her third album: "The Truth" - which outsold 95% of the artistes at Woodstock 5 and yielded 3 radio hits.

Jo disbanded the B.A.N.D. at the end of '04 and took a break from live performances to work with Jon Buckley on her fourth album, "Princess", released through Intervention Arts on 26 April '06, which delivered 4 radio hits.

SA Rock - Where does Jo Day fit in?

The average JO DAY fanclub member is 21.5 years old. About half (44%) are female. The Jo Day fanclub continues to grow, and extends as far afield as the UK, Europe, USA, New Zealand and Australia.

JO DAY has a very broad appeal on the SA market. Successfully appearing with such diverse artistes as: Tweak (pop/punk), Rhutz (heavy metal), Karen Zoid (Afrikaans rock), Wickhead and 16 Stitch (nu-metal), Zen Arcade (adult-contemporary), and even the indefinable Wonderboom and Fuzigish.

Jo has a great love and respect for her SA rock contemporaries - featuring fellow SA bands in her free monthly e-mag THE 'ZINE (which has a readership of nearly 4 000!) and even sponsoring RhutZ on their SA tour with Soulfly.

Good Stuff (see "Achievements" for details)

Campus stations nationwide regularly feature her tracks, as does Radiowave (Namibia). She's also been playlisted on 94.7, RSG, SAfm, Kfm, UCT Radio, Radio PUK, UJFM, Radio Toady & Radio 2000.
