Princess - Reviewed by wickedrock.co.za

Growling riffs and spitting lyrics give a grand welcome to one of the year's strongest releases. With Princess, JO DAY proves that there's a bitch in rock 'n roll.

The standout fact is that there isn't one weak track and so it's pointless attempting to choose a favourite. The tunes lie somewhere between the addictive qualities of Marilyn Manson and Goldfrapp; powerful and very sexy. The lyrics are immediate with independence and sometimes stab with criticism. I laughed at lines like "she's got blonde hair, you don't wanna know where" whilst "I want a gilded invitation to the sanctuary of ev'ry little lie you've said" trapped me in reflective thought.

Princess is an incredibly clever album yet remains accessible to the masses. It's hard to stab with that double-edged sword but I find myself yelling "Ouch!" in the best kind of way, again and again.

"This may be your very last chance," sings the final track. I smile, say "screw that" and start the CD again. Within the commercial rock genre, outfits like Garbage and Meridith Brooks have dropped to dildo status. JO DAY is the real thing.
